Starter
Share a video of the London 2021 fireworks celebrations and discuss how we celebrate the New Year.

Discuss - What how different countries celebrate the New Year.
Activity
Using the New Year Tradition Cards, lay them all out on a table face down and take turns to pick a card. Act out some of the traditions using the gathered resources.
Resources (as many as you can find)
-New Year Tradition Cards
-Coins
-grapes (cut into quarters)
-a suitcase
-jug or cup with water nearby,
-the sensory tray outside or a bath filled with some water and containers/toys
-stale loaf of bread
-a bell
-tin foil
-bottles with smashed china in or something that makes a similar sound...

Art
LO: To create a range of different line & textures
Starter
Share images and videos of New Years celebrations including fireworks – discuss the colours, and shapes created in the displays.
Activity
Design and make a fiework scene using different tools to create a variety of lines. Use a variety if colours layered together (let one layer dry before adding the next colour to ensure the colours stay vibrant) Before all the paint has dried sprinkle a thin layer of glitter over the artwork.

Black paper or card (if not available use white)
Brightly coloured paints
Paintbrushes
Any other found tools that can be uses to paint with:
Cotton buds, forks, toilet roll cardboard cut part way into thin strips, wool, twigs etc

Sensory play Ideas:
Use a road play mat in a tray or on the floor (or make your own roads using masking tape) with a selection of toy cars and people. In groups discuss safe areas for the people to cross the road safely
