9: 30 Adult directed Activity: Pirates and under the sea

 

Refer to the island that you made and explain that we will be exploring the sea, show pupils pictures of pirates that are coming to our island. Read pirates love underpants or watch on YouTube. Encourage pupils to think about the different pirates and what they wear. Pupils are to decorate their own pirate from a description you give them or make their own pirate and make a wanted poster using descriptive language to describe their pirate.  

 

10:30 – Have a snack and read a story or listen to rainforest song on you tube.

 

11:00- 12:00 – Child initiated time, pupils are to play with toys or educational games on the computer. Adults are to support their use of ICT skills through the use of accessing a printer, using a mouse and keyboard to write names and words or to play simple educational games (ICTgames.com). If playing with toys, adults are to encourage narrative in pupils play and developing speaking and listening skills by hiding and finding toys.

 

12:00-13:30 Lunch and free play.

14.15 Adult focused activity: Science: floating and sinking.

Use every day items that to see if they float or sink. The idea for this activity is to find some items that can be used for junk modelling to make a pirate ship later in the week. Pupils are to sort the objects that float and those that sink. Try to get the pupils to predict what will happen.

Focused activity: Phonics – phase 2

Listen to jolly phonics songs phase two, blending song and tricky word song 2 on YouTube. Use phonic cards to play matching memory game or snap. Practice name writing and letter formation of the alphabet. Play phase two phonics game on Phonicsplay.com. Complete phonics colouring sheet on school website.  Continue to work on letter formation booklet. Added phonics bingo game.

Engage in sound bag activity, collect a range of instruments and develop sound recognition supporting phase 1 phonics explore sounds at first and different volumes of sound for engagement. Then develop sound recognition by identifying the instrument just by sound. Links to sound bag and instrument cards resource for instructions.

9:30 Adult directed Activity: Maths: Shape

Pupils are to cut out different shapes to make a picture of a pirate ship. They are to try to name the shape. Support them to count the sides and corners or each shape. E.g. A circle has one curved side and a square has four corners. Encourage the pupils to talk about the different colours they are using and see if the can recap parts of the pirate stories that have been read.

For sensory mark making ideas a colour sensory bag instructions have been included (week 2) which can be used to mark make on, write numbers, drawn shapes, you can use a mixture of colours in 1 bag as instructions suggest or have all different coloured bags which will also develop colour recognition skills, you could add glitter or different shiny shapes to make it more sensory to develop mark making and motor skills. These can be kept and continued to use.

Pupils are to make pirate cookies. These could be gingerbread men pirates, gold chocolate covered cookies or vegan cookies as seen here https://nerdymamma.com/vegan-and-gluten-free-pirate-cookies/ Encourage the pupils to measure and weigh the ingredients and then use icing and sweets to decorate.

Have a pirate party! Make pirate hats, paint an eye patch with face paint, watch a pirate film with some popcorn play some pirate games and have fun!

9:30 Adult directed Activity: Junk modelling a pirate ship that can float.

 

Using the floating materials from Monday make a pirate ship that can float. The ship can be any design that you like. Use google images to look at different pirate ships or get some ideas from this week’s pirate stories.
