Food Technology
LO: To be able to combine ingredients
Starter We are going to practise our spreading, mixing and cutting skills to make a sandwich. You can choose what you would like to put in as a filling. Try and use vegetables as well as cheese, ham or other fillings.
Activity Discuss what is needed to make a sandwich. Prepare the ingredients and equipment needed. Support children to safely use a knife to spread the butter and slice the vegetables. Encourage them to cut the sandwich in half. They can eat their sandwich or put it in a sandwich bag and refrigerate for lunch time.
Resources Bread Spread Sandwich filling e.g. cheese, ham, fish, eggs etc Prepared vegetables such as tomatoes, cucumber, lettuce etc.
English LO: To be able to use the suffix ‘s’
Starter Look through the example ‘adding-s’ on the sheet. Discuss how words change from singular to plural. Then complete the activity. Check that you have used a capital letter and full stops and your letters sit on the line.
Activities Adding-s – all abilities Work through the activity adding-s and complete each section. Don’t forget to write each sentence and underline the suffix.
Extension Adding-es Work through the example together and look at the examples for adding the suffix -es. Work through the activities adding -es and complete each section. Don’t forget to write each sentence and underline the suffix.
RE LO: To be able to explain the key features of a Muslim place of worship
Starter Look at the images on the Lesson Presentation Special Places. Ask the children to guess what the images are. Explain that Muslims worship in a Mosque. Then watch the video to find out what it is like inside a Mosque. Discuss the key features of Mosque. Talk about religions having special days of worship. Explain that Muslims’ special day is a Friday, but the Mosque is open every day.

Topic/Science Topic/Science LO: To be able to identify Animals and their Young
Starter Work through the lesson presentation Animal Babies and then match animal babies to their young. Can you remember the names for each of the animal babies?
Activity 1 – all abilities Match the baby animals to the adults using the baby animals and adult matching cards.
Activity 2 – all abilities Using the How Animals Grow sheet choose an animal and draw a picture of it as a baby and an adult. Describe how it changes as it grows. Use the word mat to help you spell words (See resources)

LO: To be able to describe how humans change as they grow
Starter Work through the lesson presentation Growing and Changing and discuss each question. If more support is needed print out the growing and changing activity cards and match the pictures and the descriptions.
Activity 1 Lower ability - Complete the growing and changing mini book. Support with the reading. Middle and Higher Ability – Complete the growing and changing mini book.
Extension Activity Carry out the growth enquiry comparative test to find out whether younger children take longer to do an activity. Use a timer to measure the amount of time it takes 5 older children and 5 younger children to do their chosen activities. Use the activity sheet in the resources.
